New Year’s Resolutions?

January | 13 | 2012

So, here we are in 2012.  As usual, I have made the same resolutions: eat less, drink less, exercise more etc. etc. After many years, and with some success I might add, I may sound like a broken record. How old school of me, the correct term in 2012 is probably more accurately stated: like a break in my Wi-Fi connection when downloading a digital song!

But what about your corporate resolutions?  Do you have any? If not, I would like to suggest and encourage you to consider implementing a third-party privacy certification for your organization.

As your clients’ data (personal, engagement, behavioral, conversion, financial, partners, etc.) becomes the new digital currency, your commitment and leadership in proactively managing and protecting your clients’ data is paramount for your corporate stewardship.

Last year, on numerous occasions, we saw data breeches occur for many organizations.  The respective issues and brand management activities stemming from these breeches differed for each organization.  Unfortunately, the reality is that ANY data breech cannot be a positive experience for your organization, and that client and brand management in a post-breech environment is very painful.

Enter privacy certification.

Over the past decade, as more critical business operations go online, the “business” of privacy protection and certification has evolved. We’ve always agreed that the issues pertaining to “technical” compliance are important (spyware, malware, spam, etc.) but what about your business policies?

A thorough privacy assessment and certification will uncover any potential issues that could be problematic for your organization, and also provide you the direction needed to fix these issues and protect your client.

The costs associated with a privacy certification may add to your bottom line, but the trust factor that your existing or potential clients experience will more than compensate for this.

Here at Marketfish, we take data and privacy very seriously, and have taken the appropriate steps to certify ourselves. For more on our certification please visit: http://www.marketfish.com/PDF/TRUSTe-Marketfish-CaseStudy.pdf

My resolutions typically last a few months, but your privacy resolution will last the entire year. Grab your legal team and find the right certification that fits your organization and adopt this resolution for 2012.

Thanks and good luck.
