Should You Be Worried?

Data privacy, security, and governance are undoubtedly some of the hot button issues facing any company operating in the digital space.  Think about it, you have SOPA, PIPA, Anonymous, Carrier IQ, Google’s privacy policy changes, as well as this article here, this one here, and this one here.  That’s only the beginning of the tumultuous times ahead for any unprepared online business, or for any company with a computer for that matter. Your customers’ data, as well as your own company’s, are both firmly set in the sights of all the denizens of the digital underworld.  If you don’t believe me, just look around, the public actually cares quite a bit about what you as a brand do with their data. They’re the ones that expect you to be prepared.  Terrified?

I hope I haven’t scared you.  Actually, I hope I did a little bit, because every company needs to take this issue very seriously.  If not, I hope you enjoy watching train wrecks, because if you’re not careful, your brand reputation could be scattered across the tracks.

At Marketfish, we work with a lot of data, both our own as well as the data generated by our customers through our platform.  That’s why we take digital security so seriously.  We actively sought out a third-party privacy certification from TRUSTe, as well as membership in the Online Trust Alliance.  If you’re wondering what the benefits of a privacy certification are beyond that of a good night’s sleep, then I have just the news for you.

Our own Chief Privacy and Deliverability Officer, David Fowler, will be co-leading a webinar with TRUSTe.  The webinar is titled “Marketfish – A Success Story on How Data Privacy Helped Drive up Online Service Adoption.”  I bring this to your attention, not to plug two affiliated brands, but because data privacy is so important.  If you tune in, you’ll learn how an industry-leading data privacy policy can actually drive revenue.   Head here for more info.

If you have any questions about the webinar, or data privacy and security, then please leave them in the comments.
